Explore Assisi
Assisi isn’t just home to UNESCO World Heritage sites. The entire town is a UNESCO World Heritage site!
Framed by the long, undulating hills of Umbria and the forests of Monte Subasio, it’s one of the best-preserved medieval towns in the world and one of Italy’s most captivating little towns.
Assisi is recognized for its postcard-like charm, valuable art and historic buildings. It's a famous pilgrimage site for Catholics, as it's the birthplace of St. Francis; one of the most venerated saints in Catholocism. Don't be surprised to see lots of nuns roaming about the streets!
Cool things to do!
We were so impressed by the charm, little streets and amazing tourist attactions when we visited, we decided to keep Sunday free so guests can take their time and explore the town. It would be such a shame to travel all that way to the middle of Italy and not take it all in!
Basilica of St. Francis
Even though we aren't religious, the Basilica is one of the most impressive things we've ever seen. The scale and talent of the artistry will actually blow your mind! And it's FREE to enter!
Rocca Maggiore
Another definite must-see! It's easy to get to and only €5 or €6 to enter the grounds. You get incredible views of Assisi. Below are some of the pictures we took when visiting.
Piazza del Commune
It was really cool to just wander around the streets and soak it all in. We had great food and drinks around the Piazza del Commune. In one of the pics below you can see the Rocca Maggiore being lit up in the background.
Other Attractions
There are lots of other attactions to see and places to go, such as Basilica de Santa Chiara and Cathedral of San Rufino. Explore Google and I'm sure you'll find something to your taste, even if it's just drinking wine and eating cheese! (Check out this cheese and meat board we got - food heaven!)
